5 out of 5 stars great for the money   April 20, 2009

I bought this GPS to geocache because I could not afford a more expensive one. A friend bought the Garmin Colorado 400t. Although his has more bells and whistles mine gets me to within 10 feet every time and is every bit as accurate as his more expensive model. It took me awhile to figure out how to use certain features, but overall is easy to use. It is easy to download geocache locations from the internet. I have had a great deal of fun using this gps and don't regret not getting the more expensive model.

I've been using my new Venture HC for a week now, and I'm amazed! the most surprising for me it's the precision, even when indoors I got 5 meters of precision. And it can be as good as 3 meters in open areas. The color screen looks very nice too, and it is very ease to use. I strongly recommend it! Nice purchase!

This is a nice basic gps. I use it for geocaching and I love it. I was worried about the color screen draining the batteries but I've had the same batteries in it for a month and they aren't even on their last bar yet. It's good if you're looking for something basic and inexpensive.

5 out of 5 stars Great device for beginners and geocachers   December 2, 2009

I am new to the handheld gps market, and this is my first purchase. I bought this with the assumption that it would be a great device for hiking and geocaching, and I was correct in assuming this. The device seems to be accurate to within 10 feet or so, which is more accurate than I need but is excellent. I haven't played around with too many of the features just yet, as I stick to using waypoints most of the time. I cannot comment on the inclusion or use of any high end features, as I am still a "rookie" with these devices. For my uses, it is just about perfect.

I use it mostly for geocaching. It is great to use with the geocaching website, as there are buttons on the website to instantly download cache information directly to the gps device. This is a big improvement from my old method of typing in each cache's coordinates. It sorts the caches by which one is closest to your location, and once you've found one it moves onto the next one on the list. This is quite handy, especially if you're in a park or somewhere there is more than one cache close by. The battery life seems to be quite long, and is convenient in that the batteries are easy to replace and a standard size. There is no recharging the device in between uses. I haven't had any problems at all with it so far. It is quite small (reminds me of cellphone size), and fits into pockets, palms, etc... with no problem at all.

Overall a great purchase, and highly recommended to anyone. Especially those of you who are interested in geocaching.
